It's What's For Dinner

I've been eating a lot of corn and sunflower seeds lately, although right now I'm full of ice cream and angel food cake.
In case anyone in the area is out there—"Check, check, is this thing on?"—if you don't want to pay top dollar for sweet corn at Stoneman's, the corn stand on Main St. in Sun Prairie comes highly recommended (by the manager of the Sun Prairie Dollar General who swears by putting sugar in the boil. This seems to be a thing but honestly, the sweet corn pictured here was so good I can't imagine).

Another long Sunday drive brought us to this sweet corn stand in Lake Mills

I'm looking for someone to carry me around the sunflower field

  2. Lovely photos. I'm making corn on the cob tomorrow so I'm going to try the tip about sugar in the water. First I'll need to google how much though one doesn't need to much. A bit like "salting" the water perhaps?

    1. I can't bring myself to try it it's so good already. I mentioned one or two tablespoons and she said, "Yes." It seems exactly like salting the water and I'm guessing more like a teaspoon depending how how big the pot and how much corn you're making.

    1. Corn land, lol. Just don't call us "local milk people." Trump joke. I hope life is surprising you in a good way this weekend, Kwarkito.

  4. Lovely photos. I'm very fond of sunflowers and their seeds. Sweet corn here is either frozen or tinned - hardly the same thing, I imagine.

    1. Well that's a travesty. Maybe I'll use my new corn kerneler and freeze some for you. There are some here that won't eat it if it hasn't been picked that day.

  5. How lovely. There was a corn seller in the town square when I was a girl, he had the biggest pot imaginable to boil the corn and then would put it back in the husk a sprinkle a very generous amount of salt in it. I haven't thought of him in years and haven't seen one since.

    1. Aww, that's sad, Amalia. The corn the $ Store girl told me about wasn't very good, but it is cheap. Corn Fest this week, hip hip hoorah. It sounds like a fish boil pot. He must have had quite a fire underneath.

    1. It is and of course you do (: I wonder if I have a sweet corn problem because as much as I've been indulging and don't think I could eat another kernel I'm back at it a few days later.
