Year of the Cat Clip Show

This is hard for me to write not only because I'm broken up about Dexter's owner taking him back soon, but because being a dog person I would have been one of those people shaking their heads at this kind of display. That is before I met Dexter (cue music).

It's been a Year-and-a-Half of the Cat altogether.

Dexter has been my soft, fluffy, mewing, mewling, curious, shedding, shredding, licking, biting, playful, warm, sneezing, scratching, yawning, adventuresome, bird-watching, bathtub-surfing, counter-climbing, food-snatching, paper-catching,

mischievous, hilarious, surprising, consoling, cautious, pink-pawed, crazy-loud-purring, dog-dreaming, trick-learning,

inscrutable, foot warming, baseball-watching, companion, sounding board and goofball accountant for more than a year straight and I was a little surprised his owner was coming to collect him.

I'm all verklempt so here are more of my favorite moments.

    1. He's here snuggled up next to me downstairs on his day bed right now cuz I can't sleep. He is as sweet as any dog with an extra scoop of imp. I hope it is too, Brian, and now you've given me another excuse to stop typing and hug him...ha, he kind of went with it then decided he better sit on the arm of the sofa for awhile, haha.

  2. Oh wow, that would kill me to take care of an animal for a year and half and then have to hand it back. So sorry. We love our critters in our house. They are all pains in the rear but we love them just the same.

    1. It is killing me, I didn't think I could experience so many emotions in such a short period of time, Yogi. The last week or so has been utter hell. I love any critter that's stayed with me as well, and all that dropping Dexter off and taking him back then dropping him off only to leave him here for more than a year has done me in.

    1. My heart is breaking and he's still here, curled up next to me again after I stopped typing and picked him up and hugged him. He decided to stretch out on the arm of the sofa after that unexpected hug then came back next to me. Guess he's learned to put up with me, take a breath and get back to it, haha. Thanks for empathizing, Ella.

    1. He is a handsome boy and may be the most brushed and groomed cat outside of a show ring. Brushing and playing have been part of our "diet" but he loves to be brushed while he eating so I may have created a new bad habit (: I expect him to be gone on or by Monday so these last few days are pretty difficult, thanks for commiserating, Eileen.

  8. Dexter looks a right character, that would be hard to see him go, I hope he is happy in his return and who know who is just about to walk into your life now... there is obviously an opening in your heart, some moggy is bound to turn up. Haha how did that get so deep? I'm a dog person too!!!
Thanks for taking the time to visit me in Bangkok, I'm glad you enjoyed your visit despite our humungous lizards!

    1. He is as much if not more of a character than most dogs I know and I know and have been fond of many canines.
Itrully hope he is too but I've been reading about how cats bond with one person and I fear that person may have been me. On the other hand I didn't start taking him in until he was four or five so maybe he bonded, debonded and bonded again and no one really knows anything much about cats.
Thank you for that sentiment, one never knows and right now I foresee a big hole in my heart but again, that could be my diet.
      Moggy, eh, love it.
Those monitor lizards are both hypnotizing and frightening.

    1. He is more entertaining than I could have imagined even though I've had friends with some hilarious cats.
My cousin has left him with his brother, parents and finally me over the last few years, but since the little guy was first supposed to be picked up last April (2016) and then last fall I began to think he might find his forever home here.
I can't wrap my head around being able to leave him for such long periods of time while still wanting him in your life. I guess I've got to think outside of my views on pet ownership...thanks for the kind comment, Lynne.

    1. I was cat-sitting for my cousin, Jane. He has left him with me for several months over the last few years. It's just this time since he wasn't picked up either of the times I expected him to be and it's been such a long time I didn't think the scraggly ol' thing was really a part of my cousin's life.

  16. Awww. Cats do that, don't they? Sucker you into loving them because how could we not. That happened to us. None of us in this house thought of our hearts being nursed by cats. Ha! That's our Molly. She purrrrrs for you, by the way. She hopes the best for Dexter and is quite glad that you have photos to keep your memories warm. Hugs to you, Jeanna.

As far as I know, you didn't test any of the limits. It's more for people who use everything for advertising their own stuff. My conference was phenomenal -about 10 pages of notes - thanks for asking. Learned a lot:)

I really don't like those self promoting blogs or links and avoid them. When they leave a comment and I see what they're all about I never know what to say. That's why I ask no links in the comments because it's often someone linking to a blog that's promoting something.
Good to hear the conference was a smashing success and that's a lot of notes (:

I'm still working on a Cat FAQ for his young owner and trying to convince him to keep up with his vaccines. He's still here nosing around my plate of chicken right now but I'm expecting him to be taken today or tomorrow.

    1. I've had him on and off since...let me check, July 19, 2016. He belongs to my cousin who has been moving around a lot as people in their 20s do.
This time, however, I've had him since early April 2017 so more than a year uninterrupted and I sense a new type of bond this time. I compare it to a wand changing allegiance if you're a Harry Potter fan. Dexter actually wants me to scratch his belly now and practically rolls off the bathroom counter knowing I won't let him fall.
I asked my cousin if he really wanted him and he said yes, Dexter was his buddy. I added that Dexter has made a home for himself here and asked my cousin to think about it. I don't want to insult him but need to make sure he knows both Dex and I will have a hard time apart.

  23. Cats steal your heart. I gave my last cat to my mother as a companions in her last years. Of course, I got to see him lots the last two and a half years when I was her caregiver. It was the best thing I could do for the both of them. My husband and I traveled and worked too much to give him all the attention he needed. Mom could do that so it was the best for both of them even though it was hard for me. After she passed he came back to live with us, but he lasted only 8 more months. Now I'm catless and yearning. - Margy

That was an important and heartfelt gift and no doubt made your mother's final time warmer and brighter. I'm sure it was quite difficult for you but you must know what a mitzvah it was. Do you think he missed her so much he didn't last as long as expected?
I hope you find another fur baby to fill that gap, you certainly deserve it, Margy.

    1. That would keep me on pins and needles, Kalpanaa. I think if I had a fenced in garden and knew he would stay there, maybe I could let him experience the outside world. But he is a chicken and wanders the short hallway in the apartment, coming back quickly when I call him. But I got him as an indoor cat and have made an extra effort to keep him amused.

I can see why you're "verklempt"...too emotional to speak. So much love in this blog post about your beautiful furry friend! I'm including two links here to a piece called "Kitten on the Keys" — one the 1920s version, and the second Liberace's livelier version, as a tribute to your wonderful Dexter. My musician father made sure we listened to plenty of old hits in addition to our preferred 1960s rock'n'roll, and the title of this piece has always stayed with me.

    1. Both fun and jazzy tunes, I can imagine a cat hopping along the piano keys. Every time I see Liberace's name I think of the Michael Douglas movie though, shudder. I believe my mother will tell you, "He's from Milwaukee."
Dexter listened to your cool tunes while sitting on the edge of the love seat watching an incredible display of snow flurries. My cousin hasn't picked him up yet so we're living our final days together watching Narnia form in the front yard.
My grandpa made sure his family listened to opera and my parents played all sorts of music while putting up with my childhood addiction for musicals. I have a Godmother who loves classic jazz and it rubbed off on me. Now she's in memory care and I'm binging all that good music back to her.
      Thanks so much Kay.

  29. Oh no Jeanna! Can't you hide him somewhere and say he ran off?... Worth a try? I can't imagine looking after an animla for so long and then having to let them go. Especially one that has character... Has Dexter been asked about how he feels about all this. Maybe it should be a call the cat contest and whoever Dexter goes to is where he lives?

Thank you for linking up with #keepingitreal.

    1. His idea of hiding is crawling under his blanket cave with his tail sticking out. Unfortunately the last time I tried to get him in his carrier he ran to his "safe" place which is on the bathroom counter. My cousin is young and agile so I don't think the poor little guy is a match for him.
Dexter didn't want to leave when he was here the year before last for shorter amounts of time so I know how he feels at this point.
I'd like to see that contest, haha. Whoever is holding a piece of chicken will win.
