Men on Ice

Not to be confused with the full-on ched musical Guys On Ice which seriously needs to work on its about page
I took a closer look at the winter ice colonies on Lake Mendota yesterday and was delighted to see the fishing shack version of a party float.

Forget questionable looking ice and unseasonably warm weather, ice fisherman must grill near shacks on ice or perish

    1. Ha ha, it was actually a beautiful day that would make any sane person think twice about congregating on the ice. The next largest lake had many stretches of visible water.

  2. Kind of like a tailgate party at a football game. :-)

    1. Exactly, Susie Mac. Although it's supposed to involve fish.

  4. I remember you posted the men on ice too last year - brr, too cold for me, but kudos to them. The ice must be very strong to have that container on there! Thanks for showing this great tradition with All Seasons!

    1. I don't think I've gotten a good shot yet, but it's fun to try.

  5. I would always have thought that the ice shack was a last resort when the weather was too awful to do anything else. Obviously I know nothing. The video made me laugh and did remind me of Prairie Home Companion when it was good (and when we knew nothing ...:((

    1. Ha, refresh my memory, do we now know Garrison Keillor is a perv? His niece used to hang out with us once in a while back in the 80s.

  6. I'd have to have enough heat that would melt the ice out there!

    1. Some of those ice structures can get pretty cozy. We never had anything like that or even power tools. Dang kids these days and their fancy ice shacks.

  7. Hi Jen, how precarious is that? It's making me nervous just looking at it. I think I'd rather have a sandwich... Although grilling fresh fish does have it's appeal and fish never tastes as good as when it is fresh.... Your secong photo is also making my toes curl. Deep water scares me! Really. I think I took the children out on a padlo boat a grand total of twice and we live in safe sea creature area. My imagination runs amock though and if a shadow ever passes across the water I amout of there (and it's usually only ever a cloud!).

    1. Ha, my knees have been too bad to walk out there myself but yes, I'd rather have a sandwich too. Not to mention it has to be insanely cold to be safe in which case I'm taking pictures from the car. I'll let my cousin the fisherman do all that and the cleaning of said fish. I'll bring the beer. It's not very far off shore which means it's probably not all that clean which is the truly scary thing about these lakes.
Sea creatures? LOL, do tell. You mean like the Loch Ness Monster?

  8. As Kate on thin ice I was naturally intrigued to see this one #MMBC and always good to see another country and its ways

  9. I don't think I would want to be standing on that ice! They certainly are far braver than me :) #MMBC
