Bird Fest

I went to Horicon's Bird Fest last week and barely spotted a living creature.

People were naming so many birds I thought they were making them up

Meanwhile back home, the local cranes were having a party in the front yard.

One wing flap away from a noise complaint

  1. I can't imagine those cranes in your garden, do they do any damage?

  2. I took the photo from my balcony and haven't noticed them eating gardens. They are incredibly loud though. Plenty of birds have feasted on my plants but I'm too lazy to have any right now. If anything, it's the deer that chow down on the gardens and bushes. Tomato plants seem to be a popular treat.

    1. Sandhill cranes I think. They're fun yet often annoyingly loud. They also love to stroll along the middle of the road although may have gotten better about that. I haven't seen them invading anyone's garden but they do strut about as if they own the place.

  4. I am so impressed you have cranes in your yard! Shame about the bird festival. I once attended a lecture by a famous photographer and he said that sometimes the trick is to sit still and wait instead of going to the photograph EverYone else dashes off to get he pic, but if you sit still, it can come to you. I think your pics prove this theory! #mysundayphoto

    1. Those crazy birds haunt the neighborhood every year. They were here early because of the crazy weather. I didn't really care, I was happy to be out on the water and am surrounded by places to see birds from the land if I really wanted to. That is very good advice and I've found it not only to be true, but more my speed, John. Yes, I guess vegging out on my couch and looking out the window is about as still as you can get (:

  5. Hi Jeanna, I remember a crane (or was it a stork) landing in our garden apparently drawn by the tasty looking fish in the pond. Maybe I should have checked for a baby out there!... Birds can be so Diva-ish. Fancy not showing up for there very own fesival?

    1. I'll confess I wasn't always sure storks were real and double checked just now. I probably see them and think black and white flamingo or crane or egret or heron. And that sums up my bird knowledge. Oh yeah, these guys are Divas! Ha, I think they fly in from Florida and hang out in about a three mile radius.

    1. We've got plenty of geese around, PLENTY of geese and the cranes are turned all the way up to 11, Bri.

  10. I would love to have Sandhill Cranes on my front lawn (if I had a front lawn). These might be the same pair we've see here in Florida in the Winter .... because I think I've heard they migrate from Wisconsin. (You should come with them next Winter!)

    1. My front lawn is actually the parking lot, Sallie, but some kind of critters get into the tomato plants on the porches below. These guys were strolling around the grounds and had a bout of insanity that lasted quite awhile. I think they may be your cranes! Florida kind of freaks me out, I think of it as one big hurricane with beaches full of sharks and lawns full of giant lizards and beetles.

  11. I would be totallly lost with all the species of birds too. Those cranes look huge though!

  13. nice to see other people garden birds, we have the usual sparrows, tits and robins. What a shame you saw no life when you would have expected to. #MySundayPhoto

    1. I saw either a hawk or juvenile eagle hanging out on my balcony once, and I hear all sorts of things at night. I live close to a marsh, a few large parks and a preserve, but it's got to be big and loud to catch my attention I guess.

  14. Than dancing crane in your yard is hilarious. Send them to mine! Hopefully I have more success today, than yesterday to leave my comment (tried to get through the chapta 3 times)> Many thanks for sharing with All Seasons!
Also thanks for your wish for the best mothersday - and it was a very happy day being out with new friends, as well as your list of suggestions to keep Boo (grand son) happy - when I draw a blank I'll just look up your comment:):) Have a great week, Jeanna!

  18. Okay, Jeanna, here comes the obstinate side you may not know of. I left Blogspot in 2009 because it was bought out by google and the last one has increased tracking (for so-called business purposes -yeah, right). Even though son told me "they know everything about you" (at that time he was into web design) I will make it as hard on google and other internet orgs. as possible to know "all" about me... because I have the right of privacy - I have nothing to hide, but my business is none of their business!! That includes third party cookies:). So I'm not against people, otherwise I wouldn't be blogging, but I am against tracking some internet systems are so fond of. If that means a hassle with chapta systems, I take that consequence:)

    1. I don't like to be tracked either but figure we all are anyway. When the Facebook thing came out I was like, "You don't say." I don't remember captcha being an issue until about a year ago so they've done something even more messed up to mess us up.
      You stay true, girlfriend!
