Rain Noir

I was amazed we didn't get a tornado spinning through town last week and there's still some question of whether or not Fennimore did. I got a good look at that funnel cloud on the TV and if that thing wasn't a twister our state flag shouldn't be changed to a guy grilling brats while pounding a case of Pabst.* (It should.)
Fennimore is significant because it's only 12 miles away from where we get popcorn and overpriced trinkets and is the birthplace of my swinophobia (pigs were guarding a patch of ditch weed at someone's farm in the seventies—it was a whole thing).

*According to 24/7 Wall Street, not only half of the 20 Drunkest Cities in America are in Wisconsin, but so are the top four. The city in which I live is number four and the first college I attended comes stumbling in at number ten. Green Bay is still number one. Go Pack.

  2. I'd want a stiff drink if I knew a tornado was coming towards me. Your post reminded me of my dream in which Molly the Cat and I are standing at the patio door looking at a tornado coming our way. Strange, since we don't live in in tornado country.

    1. I'd want to make sure I had a good camera and an empty SD card. You and Molly, eh, lol. We've had some too close brushes with tornadoes in the not so distant past. I mean real close as in the apartments across from my mother and one street over while driving home. Last year i was feeling it maybe eight miles away where the wind had blown away my glasses from a picnic table sending me stumbling around blindly in some pretty creepy weather.

    2. Wowza! Tornados, and hurricanes, are far scarier than our earthquakes.

    3. I would have NO idea what to do in an earthquake, Susie.

  4. Yesterday was a tornado in the Netherlands!
Normally, we do not have something like this, but now due to the climate change these phenomena will occur more often, the meteorologists say ...

    1. Realllly? Dang. Yeah, all those deniers just kill me, I mean W the actual F? I'm going to have to read about that one, incredible. Yeah, the "Noir" filter added some of it but it was an ominous sky taken just after a crazy storm.

  7. Wow....thinking that if all the drunks are up your way then I will stay here in TN! We have our share for sure though..Glad you did not have a twister. Was laying here on the screened in deck a bit ago and all of a sudden the wind came in fast, then the rain. Been raining steady and hard for about 15 mins now, no watering of plants tonight. YAY....Love the sound of the rain on the tin roof.

    1. You can't imagine what a pleasure it is to be around during game days. That is unless you join them, but since I rarely drink anymore, meh. I miss our old screened in porch, hope you didn't get too much rain and I bet the plants perked up.

  11. Yikes, I see that sky and want to run for cover! Funny about the drunkest cities in America. Wonder what data they collect to determine which cities win this dubious distinction??!

    1. I ran into it, ha. Must be all the binge drinking. They survey people and look at places that serve booze compared to the population. The city I live in has a 44k student population along with more places to drink to people than usual which got them a #four spot.

  15. Great photo! My sister and her husband lived in Madison for a time and I went up there and visited them and ran a marathon that went all over Madison including the student ghetto near the university and I was amused by all the students offering us runners beers as we went by "Hey dude, you look you need this worse than I do."

    1. That is hilarious Yogi! You came to town and thought you'd run a marathon, are you Superman? I'm not sure what the student ghetto is though, lol, you mean the dorms? What, no shots? Beer instead of water, that is funny and I can't say it surprises me.

  16. Hi Jeann, I'm guessing that was one hell of a storm! Hope, at least, that some popcorn and trinkets survived. I can't even begin to imagine a world with no trinkets or popcorn!

    1. I t was short but intense, Debbie. Ha, the popcorn came later and survived long enough to be eaten. No trinkets that time because the feng shui of the trinkets and popcorn place was all messed up. It was weird. (I originally wrote "I was weird" which is just as true.)

  19. So scary. At least with Hurricanes you get lots of warning as it takes a while to get there. I expect I'd have to drink (more) if I lived in Tornado Alley.

    1. If the tornado is so close you miss it by not walking across the parking lot, that's too close, Sallie. Even today I thought, "If it were a little warmer there could be a tornado." Which is probably stupid because something tells me there could be a tornado at any time. I'm waiting for one of those snownados so they can make a move about it.
