On The Way Home I Saw A Snowman

It was 28˚ and sunny today so I was running around in a t-shirt without a coat.

Reaction to the Polar Vortex or has the good sense to wear a hat, scarf and gloves? (*"You can never have enough hats, gloves and shoes.")

Although I haven't seen much more than snow-covered ice lawns and ice-covered snow roads I brought along a camera to take a closer look.

Most of the roads are well cleared but I found a "short cut" home that makes me glad I've got AWD and good tires.

A reminder that I need a neutral density filter

My only thought on navigating walk at your own risk thawed and refrozen sidewalks in tennis shoes is, "Save the camera first."

    1. Haaa, I looked up the Keto diet and still don't know what it is. He's a lean, mean snow machine.

    1. Thanks, Fi, I wish I could come close to what you do with a winter scene.

  3. OMG. Last year while I was in New Jersey, I experienced some snow days and while I admired the beauty of a Winter Wonderland, I was mortified I'd slip ( I didn't have snow shoes) or get frost bite. So I stayed home those days and waited for the snow to melt.

    1. Hi bellybytes, please shoot me a line so I know where to drop by. I'm always afraid of falling, although I've got more and more padding which might make me bounce like a Bumble. I never wear snow boots and bet I'd slip in them too so tennis shoes it is.

  4. I was photo walking with my mom. She said; Never mind a broken wrist, as long as camera is all right. Yeah. I really like the last pic, pastel colors creates a great mood.

    1. Ha, good for mom. I've actually fallen more in the summer than with all the bumpy ice and snow. Thank you, I liked the lines and the idea of sneaking up on the sunset.

    1. The air temp has been hovering around zero so I'm not spending a lot of time outside, Eileen. I've got the fireplace on now which is something I haven't done in years until this February.

  6. I too like the last pic best, not only for the color but for the interesting leading lines and contrast between the verticals and horizontals. Well done!!

    1. Thank you, Stanley, well noticed. The lines drew me in while I was tip toeing around on the icy sidewalk. I thought they pointed to and allowed me to sneak up on the sunset.

  8. That's too cold and dangerous for me. It's beautiful though. I'm ever so happy I don't live in snow country.

Have a fabulous day and weekend. ♥

    1. If you mean my driving, well, maybe, haha. I do have a good set of tires and All Wheel Drive though. The snow has gone bat shit crazy after leaving us alone for most of the winter.

  9. Lovely shots and "always save the camera" or something. I was walking with my daughter on the small ridge by a coulee when a gust of wind whipped through and picked me up and threw me down----I had recently some knee surgery and thought in a split second---what to do---I save my knee AND my camera----YAY for me. haha

    1. Holy cow you must be skinny, the same thing happened to my aunt at the hair salon and she was hanging on to her walker. I get my bluffs and coulees mixed up although have roaming around on both. So you were higher up and that wind must have been strong. I think the same thing since both my knees are bad but it's still camera before knees.

    1. I've seen a few I just can't get without getting out of the car on a busy street so this one is well, the one I could catch.

  12. I'm beyond saving the camera first. These days, it's more "Don't fall!" Not because I worry about fractures, but because getting up would be like a Laurel & Hardy or 3 Stooges routine. Very cool shots, Jeanna.

    1. Haa, oh yes, "Don't you f*&^ing fall!" is always bumping through my brain. That's why I stopped ice skating, not that I have the patience or reach to even lace up.

    2. I wonder if anyone makes skates with velcro straps. Not that that would have me wanting to skate on ice or sidewalk.

  13. I love seeing the snow... We're having a pretty mild winter here so far. It's been 10-14 degrees Celsius here.

Last winter I nearly slipped on ice/snow whilst out taking photographs and Mum commented "That was quite a save!"... Well, I was holding expensive camera gear! :D

    1. That sounds pretty good to me, Nikki-ann, add some sunshine to that and it's just about perfect. Ha, I love hearing all the mom comments about saving the camera! I almost got those metal grip things one winter but decided playing it safe might be less of a hassle.

  14. Remember from the past in Holland that walking on where snow has been laying for a long time, walking can be treacherous - am happy you are braving these conditions AND saving your camera! Love the blue image, as well as the one with the creative angle of the houses on the side of the road - haah, finally a snowman that does not have round shapes:):) Thanks for contributing snowland experiences for All Seasons - have a great week!

    1. I'm not braving so much as avoiding them. Yes, save the equipment, it's worth more than I am. Thanks, you're the only one that seemed to like that shot, must be your artistic and creative eye, J. I didn't even think about it not being round until someone brought it up. I think because it looks like my snowman night light which is supposed to be marshmallows.

  16. I do remember the danger of icy snow! But, nevertheless, your photos are awesome, even without a filter.
