Flash Floods and Apple Orchards

This past week looked a bit different than the one before. There were mudslides, derailed trains, homes sliding into highways, and a state of emergency in 13 nearby counties. Just a whiff of that rolled by here with a crazy mini something that hit on Monday while I was in the pool. I came out feeling all Rick Grimesy. Lovely rush hour without traffic lights reminded me that some people, including city bus drivers, will always be dickheads.
I might get a look at the bulging Wisconsin River and spewing Sauk dam this weekend or then again I might go to another Oktoberfest.

Meanwhile last weekend...

Helicopters and German beer make Homer something something

Macintosh apples or maybe a variety that doesn't start with the letter "M"

"It rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again."

Not my work but as in, "Harvesting tobacco looks like a lot of work."
"Don't you wish you had one right now?"

Guess the above reference and get a post card from the Ched Curtain.
Hint: It was played before the movie and often better than the film it preceded.

  1. Oh my! All that damage. How sad. Thankfully you are safe. I love your photos, especially the helicopter.

    1. It's still pretty bad for a lot of folks, I've been lucky but all it takes is one crazy puddle.

  2. Hi Jeanna ~~ I'm sorry for you flooding and bad weather. We've been really hot around here, tomorrow it is supposed to be a high of 89F, under 90 for the first time since our heavy rains. I like the tobacco house.
Your quote is from a cigarette ad. Since I need to be correct, I will say Lucky Strike. Pal Mal would be more towards a movie goer's elite mentality perhaps.

    1. We had that stifling hot weather a few weeks ago and it still creeps up now and again. I think TX and WI have some similar summer weather. I HOPE we don't go back to that being thankful for under 90 degrees shite, Jim, but who can say. We saw a LOT of tobacco houses after our trip to Epplegarden, I guess the area was lousy with them once upon a time.
Not from a cigarette ad, although there was a cigarette involved. I don't know what brand he was smoking—doh, hint. Will have to check the brand but probably Marlboro. It would have been elite in the sense it was shown at a more artsy, independent movie house before the film.

    1. It didn't rain much or at all that I noticed today (at least by the time I got up) so hoping everyone gets a break. Have a lovely weekend yourself, Margaret.

  4. Mudslides, not much mud here this summer. Nice horse wash and I pass on the tobacco.

    1. Not Joe Dirt, but thanks for playing, Debbie. Did you ever get a new set of keys?
As Jim guessed it wasn't a movie, but an ad, or more of a public service announcement for theater goers run before the movie.

  7. I had to hear about devastation like that.
Love that last photo. Only reference I can make is it a chocolate bar commercial before a movie??

    1. One of those No Smoking announcements before the movie, Jackie. But now I want a chocolate bar.
Yeah, brings to mind several years ago when videos of houses sliding into a lake that drained went viral.

  12. Southern Australia, where I leave, has had flooding as well in a very cool and wet Spring. Not fun...
The garden shot is lovely and horses are beautiful animals.
Many thanks for joining the Floral Friday Fotos meme, I look forward to your next contribution.
