Dandy Line

Well worth the allergies, this little weed pops up early and leaves all too soon. They bring to mind one of my favorite songs, colors and signs of spring and I saw irresistible fields of them in Boo.
It's hard to believe this was only a week ago, makes me want to drink some dandelion wine and weep for times gone by.

Sneezing on Ski Hi

On the way to (or back from) Pewitt's Nest, a place that involves more climbing than I cared to do that day (or most days these days).

A bit of whimsy over W

  2. And they are just about gone already. I love this song.

  3. I had to go read about Baraboo -- thanks for the link. If I had some dandelion wine I'd raise a toast to it and to you. I don't even have dandelions -- and not because I keep my (non-existent) yard weeded, but because they don't grow here in Florida I guess -- at least I've never seen any. They will still be showing up when we get back to Oregon though. And I never saw as many as we saw when we went to Alaska. Nobody seemed to spray or pull them (and that's OK by me).... my guess is that up there the bright spots are so welcome after a long white winter.

    1. I bet you're right about Alaska, Sallie. You should be heading to your northern home soon I'd guess.Ha, I can't even keep my wooden balcony weeded. It's already gotten too hot for me flirting with the 80s. Most people know Boo for Devil's Lake or Ho Chunk Casino. Not too long ago they had a great old timey candy store on their very charming square and one of the last soda fountains around, complete with soda jerk and cherry phosphates. It's still the place to get Cow Pies though, lol and that candy outlet isn't half bad. I did a few posts long ago about their outlet store. http://wiscandy.blogspot.com/2007/08/boo-candy-puddles.html and http://wiscandy.blogspot.com/2009/04/crisis-averted.html. If you can't find the elusive Badger Claw, that's the place to go.

  4. Wow, Boo's area is stunning! Thanks for the link, so we could enjoy the sights! I have never tried it, but some of my nature friends have eaten dandelions:) Of course not recommended when you're allergic to it:) So what do cow pies taste like? Thanks for sharing this trip with us at All Seasons! Funny, how the Rolling Stones were in their heyday considered so wild, and right now they seem so "normal!" (to me, at least). Hope this week you're recovering from your allergies!

    1. It really is quite pretty and pretty close, J. One of my next posts will be from early May when we had so much rain I kept finding picnic tables in the lake i Boo. I'd try dandelions in some form if I could. Cow Pies are like delicious, large versions of turtles. I haven't tried the peanut butter ones yet, but think the Badger Claws and original Cow Pies are my favs. Maybe you get more normal as you get older cuz you're so tired.

    1. It's funny how boulevards and fields of dandelions look so much better in person. Maybe an extreme wide angle or fish eye used a week or so earlier would have done the trick, but thanks, LF.

  9. Nice to see a space where the dandelions can flourish. A plant of many uses, but alas, not in the lawn.

    1. There may be less and less of those spaces, but still many around. I think I love them down the middle of long roads best.

    1. That seems like an old timey word, I looked it up to see where I've seen it and it said something about canola oil?
