Unintentional Corn

If June is Dairy Month (it is) then August is Sweet Corn Month. Although I've gotten plenty of sweet corn in the last few weeks it isn't enough and the grocery store selection is picked over and pathetic. My last post was about my mother and I getting lost while looking for a corn stand. The best place for sweet corn was closed for "ripening" (although they had signs along the road) so we went wandering south in the hopes of finding fresh-that-day sweet corn. We didn't, we got meat and ice cream instead.

I don't have any photos of vegetable stands teeming with corn, but I noticed some corn fields in the background of other shots. And after whining about it for the last few days, my cousin got me a counter full of corn from Shelly's farm wagon in Evansville.
Let the sweet corn consumption commence with the quality of corn rising. The Quality of Corn Rising would make a great name for a band.

Stoneman's was closed for what now?

    1. I may have been only 18th to link up last time but I was first to comment. I keep checking my Google+ when you ask me to come link up so that's a good thing since I rarely check it and feel bullied into having it at all. I do, however, feel less than memorable.

  2. I agree, those really are great photos, flooding is not so great though. Thanks for joining the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!

    1. Weird they are close by but still not in town. We got lucky considering the damage other places not that far away experienced. But anyway, thumbs up for sweet corn!

  3. Hello, the pretty images and scenery. I guess the fields are flooded from too much rain? Happy Thursday, enjoy your day and the weekend ahead!

    1. We got more than 20 inches between June and January and 2016 was bad too. I don't really see the results unless I drive out of town a bit. The immediate area got very lucky.

    1. I just about cried when I saw it. Then I drove down to the corn shed anyway and got a laugh when I saw deer munching on something out in the field. I guess they need a Scaredeer.

    1. I don't have to go far to get rural, just down the road, really, although this was a suburb. As full of corn as I am right now the sign still miffs me. And yeah, I thought it ripened in the field. I mean why bother to say that, just take down the other signs and say "Closed."

  8. And it honks me off when I think about driving up and down that road and quite a ways beyond to find the place.

  9. I had some sweet corn for dinner tonight! Probably not as sweet at the corn you get (I got mine from the grocery store), but yummy nonetheless!

    1. I finally found some Sunday but have been too wiped out to make it. Now it's old, wah. There is plenty more where that came from. Now that I know where to get the cheapest and the closest will get more tmw. The grocery store corn has been good too. Honestly though unless you pick it from the field and bring it in to eat right away, it has all been about a B/B+ taste and freshness wise. I'm after that A corn though.

  10. Corn's always later here in Oregon, middle of this month if we're lucky ... I can't wait. That closed for ripening sign is strange. Maybe it means the farmers stand is closed because there's nothing ready to sell yet ??

    1. Well mid-August is what, a week away? I suppose, but days later they were selling bi-colored corn. I can't get enough of the stuff and keep thinking of that scene with Johnny Depp in Secret Window.
