Autumn Snacks

I was able to get out a bit more this week although I'm still worn out from this infernal virus, consarn it

I dropped by to chat with my neighbors but they were eating dinner

This looked better than what they were having

It's a kind of turtle

You and me and a dog named Brie. Also seen among the cheese wheels

  2. Hop you get over the virus soon. Great timing with that first image. you must have been quick! While the toffee apples look nice, I have to say I don't have a sweet tooth. Boring I know, but true! #mysundayphoto

    1. Ugh, me too, John. Nah, those guys pose for me all the time. They do everything but take the photo and honestly I've never been happy with any of their photos, I actually threw that whole folder away except for this resized jpeg. I wish I had less of a sweet tooth although I'm about to pop a caramel apple sucker in my mouth right now.

    1. Ha, I think her mom was the cheeky one, but at least she wasn't in the cheese case.

  5. Hello Jeanna, I love your Sandhill Crane neighbors. Brie the dog not the cheese is a cutie. Love the photo with Brie and the pumpkins. The apples look delicious. Thanks for the visit. I hope you have a wonderful Sunday and a great new week ahead.

    1. I love them too, Eileen. It was fun to see the whole fam out for dinner, since it's been mostly two and occasionally three cranes lately. Ha, she was such a good model didn't try to get down or anything. Now Oliver would have jumped after two snapshots unless you were shoving treats in his face. They were pretty good and more importantly, the only ones out at the time.

  8. Hi Jeanna, haven't you shaken that virus yet? It's a clinger... Your nieghbours look far to busy to chat, but you'd have thought they'd stop and chat a while!... Those sweetcoated apples look the business. Double dipped caramel? White chocolate & cashew? I may just have to have a go at making some myself, which is something I've not done in years... Brie is doing a very good impression of a pumpkin there or are the pumpkins doing a good Brie?

    1. I have not.
Yes, only the teenager whom I'm imagining was a teenaged girl looked unengaged. They are far too tame for anything but this neighborhood and I worry about them in the winter. They should be taking off soon I'd think.
Yes, those taffy apples are indeed the business, and I'm wondering now if these are the apples I was looking for. A long time ago in a galaxy far far away someone told me about other worldly gourmet apples in Waupan and perhaps these are those. The apple squares are no slouches either.
She was a cute little thing, and unopposed to me taking her picture.

  9. I'd pass out after eating one of those candied apples. Yup, I surely would, but it doesn't stop me from looking at them. We have a candy shop nearby that makes the most amazing looking candied apples. That's a nice shot of your feathered neighbors. Love the soft lighting.

    1. Haaa, Susie. I kind of want to see that. Candy apples are rare, almost a midway food at this point. My mother used to make them, red with a cinnamon flavor but people kept losing their fillings. Thanks, I wasn't too pleased with my Crane family photos but thought it was interesting he kept scooping up this turtle, very "Suddenly Last Summer."

  10. Jeanna -- Are those whooping cranes or sandhills? Wow, great pictures. And the candy ... I'm trying not to comment because we ate a big 'linner' about 3 and I'm trying not to eat again before bed. But .... um, oh those apples ... wonder what's in my cupboard that I could raid for a bedtime snack........

    1. Sandhill Cranes, Sallie, the whole fam was there but I only sort of liked this photo. I actually deleted all of them, including the original for this one, it was a fluke I still had this low res one. The taffy apple I got Thursday was pretty good considering she gave me the plain instead of "turtle" ones. Go for it, Sallie! Get those bedtime snacks. Now I'm sorry I didn't get a brat at Oktoberfest.

    1. They are pretty good neighbors despite the occasional loud party. We had two kinds of apple pastries and they were both still warm and delicious.

  14. Sorry to hear you have to been well. It is that time of yr. I know the flu has already showed it’s ugly head in TN. However, keeping fingers crossed that I will okaymagain this yr. had my shot 1.5 weeks ago. Hoping you feel better soon but was glad you felt like getting out for a bit.

    1. I would rather have been sick for more of the summer than have it spill over into the fall, Pam. I think it's mostly getting the energy level back up to acceptable. Oh, really, the flu has showed up already, I just got my flu shot yesterday. I wish you good health as well.

  15. this virus has been hanging around a long time, exhausting! You're still funny even when sick. My candy apple eating days are over I fear, too much dental work. I still want one, though and a turtle one sounds best.

    1. Yes, and it still sounds like a death rattle when I cough sometimes. I'm ready to say *&^# it and hit the pool again anyway. Oh yeah, I proceed with caution and don't think I could handle the hard shell candy ones but have found the will power to suck down those caramel covered apple lollipops without yanking out dental, which I've done before. Actually, I think I lost a tooth to a toffee a few years ago, you'd think I'd learn. I may go back for the turtle ones since they forgot to pack them this time.
