Falling Into Old Habits

Fall reminds me of Halloween which reminds me of candy which makes me think of the best place to find it.

Salt Water Taffy, Coconut Longboys, Black Jack Taffy, Root Beer Barrels, Brach's Jelly Nougats, Yoohoo Candy, Coconut Pillows, Bottle Caps and Red Licorice Laces

That place is B&B's in Montello although I hear Half Nuts (giggle) in West Allis is good. A quick look at their website makes me want to fall into old habits and review Kenny's Soda Pop licorice.

Yeah, that's a lot of candy, what, you expect me to name it all? The novelty candy is on the shelves to the left

We used to shove packets of Pop Rocks into our mouths on Christmas when my nephews were young and not so young. Hooray for the fun aunt
But meanwhile, I'm thinking about this for one of my October road trips.

Pretty much the same stuff as in the first photo plus Orange and Lime Slices, Caramel Salt Water Taffy, Vanilla Salt Water Taffy and Filled Red Raspberry Candy
Not to worry, I'm a bit like Santy Clause only loaded with sugar. I love making candy deliveries like this one to my Godmother who for some reason was trying on wigs (she has a full head of hair) when I stopped by last year.

    1. Everyone who walks into this candy store immediately becomes six-years-old, Brian.

  2. I'm not much for candy, but ice cream is another story. I just got back from the store and there are tons of Halloween candy out. Tons.

    Have a fabulous day. ♥

    1. I've been digging Jolly Ranchers lately. Ice cream is more of an occasional indulgence for me, but there's a drool worthy ice cream store on campus that ruins you for all other ice cream. Right now there are key lime and root beer float flavors I'd love to indulge in. All that Halloween candy makes avoiding it pretty hard. My favorite is the cheapest of the cheap, the evil peanut butter taffy kisses.

    1. I've been into hard candy more lately because I've resisted crunching down on them and there go your teeth.

  4. Ooooo I loved candy. I liked those soft swirl caramel cream things, and sugar babies, and do you remember (no one else does so maybe it's a Tampa thing) candy lipsticks? My favorites. Halloween is still a favorite holiday around here! Now send over some of those wax lips please

    1. You might be talking about Goetze's Caramel Creams aka Bullseys. I love the two textures they have. I grew up with Sugar Babies and often use them in Easter Baskets. Candy Lipsticks were my jam, LA! Sadly, the kind of chalky cherry kind I grew up with are no more and had been replaced with taffy over the years. I loved them and they actually worked as lipstick. Halloween is probably my fav holiday. I should have some kind of contest and have wax lips as the prize, whaddya think? I'd really like to find the elusive wax harmonica.

  5. I don't really like the candy you buy from stores, but home-made candy is another story!

    1. It certainly is, Lady Fi. Maybe this Christmas I'll get back to it unless I do homemade caramel apples first. Even if you mess them up they're still delicious. I am a sucker (ha!) for nostalgic and novelty candy though.

  6. I love this post, perhaps because I am a candy person. :)

  7. Root beer barrels! Those were one of my favorites. Tootsie rolls, too. I Go to the store with five cents, come away with either 5 penny candies or a candy bar. Ah, the good life.

    1. I still love them but am on a Jolly Rancher kick right now. Tootsie Rolls will never go out of style, I even have a Tootsie Roll bank. Oh yeah, do you happen to remember Chum Gum? It was the best tasting stuff, cherry flavored I think, never turned into hard shards like baseball gum and you got TWO for a penny. It was a chummy two pack. Ah yes, you've given me another idea for a contest, "What Is Your Perfect Bag Of Penny Candy?"

    2. I don't know Chum Gum. I wonder if it was sold under another name, but I would remember cherry flavored gum. Bazooka Joe is what I see in my head.

    3. I'd guess no and it could be regional, however it's listed on Old Time Candy's Discontinued List. Sure, that was an old stand by. There was this sparkling blue gum that reminded me of a planet which I thought to be the ultimate gum ball. It was kind of rare, like the gummi Venus de Milo.

  8. I'm a sucker for candy or "sweets" as we call them here! :D

  9. Was there chocolate? Reeses Pieces? Heath Bars? Almond Roca? Since (as I said above) we get to eat it all, I'm only going for the high end these days.

    1. There's always chocolate, Sallie, they may even have it in cases toward the back and some kind of Almond Roca too, not my scene really. I mean there's a lot. My eye usually goes to the penny candy, anything novelty and licorice which is up behind the counter in jars. Reeses Pieces, maybe, although I didn't notice anything so pedestrian like that or Heath Bars. Probably Mallow Cups. I'm after Black Jack Taffy, Chick-o-Sticks, Mary Janes, licorice wheels, anything in the way of Snaps, Goetz's, lipstick candy and the like.
Well high end candy, it's really not, but there are more than enough of those around.
