The fire was more across the street than below.
I've been worried about taking alternate routes because of protests.
I didn't think very well on my feet when faced with a road block this morning.
But a deputy pointed out I could try going back out, down and around from the marina side.
If I couldn't think of that when I didn't have my mother in the car and needed an unblocked route to the closest ER, what am I going to do if that happens?
This was certainly an emergency for someone. Jay Pharoah, the SNL alum, said, and this isn't an exact quote, "If you keep thinking of what could happen, you'll drive yourself crazy."
I don't know much about this fire except that no one was on the stretcher the EMTs brought out, only a few people (including myself) wore masks and I only saw a chunk of one building gone on the walk back to fetch my car.
Fires area always scary, no matter what!
ReplyDeleteThey are, Brian. I didn't know there were so many levels of burnt to smell. Or maybe I did, but forgot because there was a major fire behind another apartment I lived in. It was raining ash like a volcano from that one. Almost took out the whole block which included a gas station.
DeleteJust as the saying here says, "Manakawan ka na ng sampung beses, huwag ka lang masunugan". It means, it's better to be robbed ten times, instead of being caught on a fire. I wish nobody was hurt dear Jeanna. I have to say, these are very scary scenes but you took great photos of the actions.
ReplyDeleteOh jeez, yeah, Stevenson. It looks like you got back control of your website? It was a little freaky, but honestly the protests blocking major intersections and highways have been scarier. And of course the looting which I haven't been too close to thankfully. Right now I'm cooking fish which is sort of masking the smoke smell. It must have happened quickly cuz I wasn't gone for very long.

DeleteAt least you captured some great photos! My Brother-in-law is a fire fighter. He probably sees this action all the time. I saw that 8 fire fighters here have COVID, luckily not at his station.
ReplyDeleteThank you, AAaD. I bet he does see this sort of thing and there were so many firefighters. They emptied out two towns which are further away than the one just blocks from here. That is sad about the firefighters, hopefully they have or are all recovering.

It must have happened very quickly because I wasn't gone very long and all those fire trucks and EMTs and deputies were there by the time I got home. A lot of people with no masks, but no firefighters were hurt for sure and I don't think there were any injuries or at least not serious ones. Thank you, I carry my camera in my car so it was all right there for me to shoot.

I don't think anyone was hurt, Steve. Yeah, you need to be prepared which can help with anxiety, but the thoughts that may keep you up at night will drive you nuts.

ReplyDeleteThanks and yes it was, a bad day for my knee to go out. I took the deputies advice and went around the opposite way where there was another road block, but a restaurant parking lot I could use to park my car and walk home.

DeleteThere seem to be lots of fires early this season, besides ones related to the unrest. Why are the times for Old Fart shoppers so early in the morning? I'd rather sleep in. Fortunately our grocery store does online ordering and parking lot pickups. - Margy
ReplyDeleteOne store starts at 6 am and I think goes to 8 am and the other starts at 7 am to 8 am. But I always see younger people there and who knows now that we're in Stage 2 of reopening. I go to the later one at 7 am because they've had sterilizing wipes first thing and you can't get them through delivery or curbside pick up. They didn't have them for the last three days though. I wake up between 4 and 5:30 am, so might as well use it to my advantage (;
DeleteI've been thinking about always keeping spare masks in the glove compartment because you never know when they'll come in handy. You'll be okay, with your mom, Jeanna. Things somehow fall together in getting through the emergencies and such. That's what it seemed to me with Mama, looking back.

ReplyDeleteThose clouds of smoke look ominous! Do you know that kind of smoke is very unhealthy? Hope you took these images from the inside of your car! You have a knack for finding dramas on the road (I think it's a talent. When I am driving on the road, never anything happens!) Many thanks for capturing this fire for all All Seasons.
